Paint-It
At DDA, we create innovative custom software for many types of industries and applications, and we are excited about the advent of Apple's ARKit and Augmented Reality. Augmented Reality is the next development of immersive 3D interfaces for the computer, and Apple's ARKit, along with other platforms, will now be able to make this interface widely available through your online device, whether it's a smartphone, tablet, or a hands-free device. DDA launched its first AR project in 2009, and now, with the prospect of wide distribution for AR platforms and millions of skilled users,
we feel the time to develop AR applications has never been more feasible and advantageous, for both developers and end users. While we feel Augmented Reality has the potential to transform the use of computer interfaces across the board, there are several development concepts we feel will have immediate impact in the marketplace. Our concept for a paint selector is just one among many new AR concepts DDA is proposing and we would like to share it with you.
Need
Have you ever needed to judge whether a paint color in the store will look good in your home? For anyone who's had to make a choice it's not necessarily as easy as it sounds. For one thing, the small swatches and samples in the store may look nice, but when the color is spread over a large area, it may not have the desired effect. Not to mention the large assortment of subtle grays and whites to choose from. Now, with Augmented Reality, you will be able to walk around your home and freely change the wall colors as you please, and see the color in context with your furniture, along with the actual shadows and light in your house. This application will make it far easier to purchase with confidence and to make the right choice the first time.
Benefit
DDA's Augmented Reality paint selector will make it possible to decide on the colors for your home in the best possible way; by judging the color directly in your home, and in full context. By removing guesswork, you will have a thorough understanding about how the final result will look. Now you won't have to scratch your head in the paint store, or scratch your head with a bunch of test cans and a roller. The paint selector makes it easy to make comprehensive color decisions without the upfront investment, saving time and money.
Concept
Here's how it works. You will access the selector application from your mobile device. By using the camera lens, the AR application will be able to provide a palette of colors from a paint company. As you point the camera towards a wall, you can select a palette color and apply it to the wall. Augmented Reality will update the scene in real time as you go, and shadows and reflections will render the paint color in your space with photorealistic accuracy. You can select wall and trim colors, compare color schemes, access harmonious color combinations, mix colors, and more. All this without spending a penny on paint before you make your final choice.

We take innovative ideas and subject them to a rigorous review before they are introduced to the market. Our team of seasoned professionals evaluates the core concerns of the application and employs a logical, step-by-step approach to maximize the performance of the final result. Because we keep all of the work in-house, we are able to keep costs low, and to communicate fully with our clients during the entire process. DDA offers one of the most complete skills sets of any software production company, either nationally or locally, and we can incorporate any special features necessary for a professional result. If you would like to work with us on the implementation of our paint selector application, or if you have another AR application in mind, we would enjoy a conversation.
