Loom AR
As new augmented reality software applications are being developed, they continue to have a significant impact on the training and repair industry. Augmented reality differs from virtual reality in one critical aspect. Through the use of a camera, augmented reality combines dynamic and responsive virtual elements with a user's real world environment, making for an ideal method to introduce software applications with customized instructions and precisely guided training.
The recent release of Apple and Android new AR development platforms, named ARKit and ARCore respectively, provides another game-changing innovation in the world of interface design. Now it will be possible for anyone with a smartphone or tablet to access to augmented reality applications. Augmented RealiTease is a full-service interactive multimedia company with a specific focus on the design and development of augmented reality applications. As a response to the advent of ARKit and ARCore, Augmented RealiTease has advanced a set of new AR concepts with immediate potential ready for development and implementation. Loom AR can be used by the textiles repair industry to guide technicians and trainees through the complex process of inspecting and repairing large scale textile equipment in an augmented reality context.
Need
Textiles are a multi-billion international industry, with worldwide demand. While the fundamental process of weaving is largely the same, the advent of large scale textile equipment has been developed over the years to meet the demand and to automate the process. Expert operators and highly trained technicians are required to service these machines, and Loom AR can be used by the textiles industry to quickly orient staff to the specific features of the machine, to interactively detail the steps required for routine maintenance and troubleshooting, and to offer guided AR instructions for emergency and large scale repair procedures.
Benefit
Loom AR will offer a highly efficient method to carry out loom repairs, as well as provide a comprehensive training and repair platform for the textiles industry. Loom AR will be able to employ the dynamic and immersive properties of augmented reality to achieve expedited repair procedures for a fast paced, demanding, and machine dependent industry.
Concept
Weaving processes begin with two primary thread sets; the warp and the weft. Every time the weft goes through the loom, the warp moves to trap it. A reed pushes the thread together. An industrial textile machine organizes a large quantity of threads into the two thread sets and prepares them for the automated repetition of this fundamental weaving process. Loom AR can be accessed by a user's smartphone or tablet to make an initial scan of the machine. The application will detect the make and model, and orient the user to the inspection and repair procedure. Each component will be examined in turn for proper functioning, from the pedal controls to the loom shafts.
Industrial looms have thousands of pedals and several dozen shafts, and Loom AR can greatly speed up the inspection process. Manual shuttles have been replaced by rapiers with larger bobbins for increased productivity. A weft presenter coordinates the loading of different thread colors from the assorted bobbins to the rapiers, and a jacquard attachment is used for complex patterns. This process is repeated a thousand times a minute. Loom AR will provide floating text labels to caption components, indicate which tools are required for a particular repair, and check for the overall fitness and integration of the system. Operational graphics such as arrows and vectors provide dynamic instruction in the real world scene, in real time, for an immersive and interactive experience that accelerates training and provide valuable backup for technicians in the field.
